This course is a 4 week course.

You will get: 4x 2-hour classes + 2 hours of Creative Practise to use over the 4 weeks (additional Creative Practise available if you cannot make a guided session)

Creative Practice Sessions at Art with Amy Louise are thoughtfully designed times for artistic exploration and growth. These semi-guided sessions are part of our mentorship program and are exclusively available to members of the Creative Collective and those enrolled in current Art with Amy Louise courses.

Here’s what you can expect in a Creative Practice Session:

Focused Artistic Time: These semi-guided sessions offer a dedicated space and time for you to work on your art projects, surrounded by a community of like-minded creatives.

Limited Size: Each session accommodates a maximum of 5 attendees, ensuring a more intimate, spacious, and comfortable environment.

Creative Exploration: Whether you’re continuing a project, starting something new, or experimenting with different techniques, these sessions are your canvas to paint your artistic journey.

The ‘Semi-Guided’ Format is a unique blend of independent work and professional mentorship. Here’s how it works:

Initial Check-In: At the start of the session, I (Amy Louise) will check in with each attendee. This is a time to share what you’ve been working on, discuss any challenges you’re facing, and identify areas where you might need guidance or input.

Autonomous Work Time: After the initial check-in, you will have time to work independently on your projects. This is your time to immerse yourself in your creative process, explore new ideas, and develop your artwork.

Accessible Guidance: While you work independently, I will be available for ongoing support. You can seek guidance or ask questions at any point during the session. If you need assistance, you can use table-top cards with prompts to signal me discreetly, or simply ask for help directly.

Adaptive Check-Ins: Throughout the session, I will periodically check in with attendees to offer assistance as needed. The frequency of these check-ins will be intuitive, based on the session's flow and individual needs.

The semi-guided approach is designed to foster a balance between self-directed art creation and the benefits of having a mentor on hand. This format allows for personal artistic development while still providing support and expertise when it’s most needed.

Before the course even begins, you'll receive a Pinterest board of ideas, sparking your creative imagination.

Week 1: In our first week together, we'll explore themes and colours, and you'll discover the art of harmonising and creating colours with depth. Get ready to feel the thrill of inspiration igniting your creativity!

Creative Play: Using the colours we've mixed, this week is all about intuitive and free creation. Guided by prompts, you'll develop mark-making techniques and become familiar with various tools. Feel the liberation of expressing yourself without constraints, and witness the transformation of your ideas into tangible art pieces. These free intuitive art pieces will become your collage papers.

Week 2-3: In this session, we will start to rip, tear and cut our collage papers, starting to layer and arrange. I'll unveil the secrets of composition. We'll analyse examples and I'll provide demonstrations to help you grasp the fundamentals. We’ll continue to make collage papers and add a first layer to your wooden panel. You'll be amazed at how composition can elevate your artistry.

Between guided sessions in weeks 3 and 4, I encourage you to use your 2 hours of Creative Practise time to continue creating collage papers and continue to arranging your ripped, teared and cut pieces, ready to finalise in the next session.

Week 4: In our final week, the magic truly happens. We will use adhesive to secure our collage papers. You'll continue layering and adding those last defining marks, bringing your artistic journey to a triumphant close. As your masterpiece unveils, you'll feel an immense sense of accomplishment and pride in what you've achieved.

All equipment needed for this course is provided at the studio.

If there are some specialist materials and papers that you wish to use, please feel free to bring along whatever it is that you need.

1 hand-built 30x30cm wooden panel is provided.

Acrylic paint takes centre stage in this course, offering a versatile medium for your creative journey. We'll begin with colour mixing to craft a personalised palette that resonates with your vision. Acrylics' layering ability supports depth in colour compositions.

As we progress, we'll use diverse mark-making techniques with acrylics, including brushwork, palette knife application, and sponge effects. Their quick drying time and adaptability are perfect for experimenting with textures and strokes.

We will also use dry media such as chalk, charcoal, pencils, pens, acrylic markers etc to add more depth, texture, tone and interest to our final collage.
